Hindi Course Review: Rocket Hindi

“Do You Want to Learn Hindi? Are You Looking for Hindi Lessons You Can Study Wherever and Whenever You Want? Join Me as I Buy and Review Rocket Hindi to See if it’s Worth The Price…”

My name is Jason Ayers and I’ve been studying foreign languages since I was in the 7th grade.  This is a quick Rocket Hindi review for you.  I’ve done my best to include screen shots and a 32 minute video review which you can watch if you scroll to the bottom of this page.

Rocket Hindi Overview

Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world and Rocket Hindi is Rocket Language Ltd.’s entry into the “learn Hindi from home” market.

I use to think the best way to learn a foreign language like Hindi was to get on a plane, go to India, live with a family and attend a local language school.  That’s what I did to learn my second language, Spanish, but I made a big discovery after I reached my destination in a small city north of Mexico City.

First, it helps to have at least a working vocabulary when you arrive in a foreign country so you can at least start a basic conversation.  Second, when the locals realize you don’t speak the language, they see you as an opportunity to practice their English.

I lived in Mexico twice, and the second time, I spoke English about 60% of the time because people kept speaking to me in English.  I loved Mexico, but I didn’t learn much Spanish in the 8 months that I was there.   It was frustrating and it drove me to find more effective ways to learn a foreign language.

Needless to say, I’ve bought and tried over 13 language courses in my search for the best learning methods available.

What makes Rocket Hindi and the other language programs from this company special is the delivery method.  You can download the entire program to your computer or you can study it all online.  Just log in from wherever you are and study Hindi whenever it’s convenient for you.

Rocket Hindi Learning Lounge

Rocket Hindi Learning Lounge

The other language programs all seem to take up a huge amount of space and if you travel it’s just not very convenient to take them with you.  To see what I mean, go to your local bookstore and check out the complete language programs by Barrons, Pimsleur and Berlitz.  Don’t get me wrong – they’re good programs but they aren’t as convenient.

Rocket Hindi is made up of three main modules: audio lessons, the written course material and the MegaHindi program.

The Audio Lessons

Rocket Hindi Audio Course ScreenshotAudio is a proven way to learn a foreign language.  Every language program I own (except for the stand-alone books) has an audio component.  If you want to have a conversation in a foreign language, then it’s important to pronounce the words correctly.  More importantly, you need to understand people when they talk to you.

Audio helps you do that.

Rocket Languages put 31 Hindi audio language lessons into the Rocket Hindi MP3 files.

Here’s what I like about MP3 language lessons.  You can put them on your MP3 player, iPod, laptop or other portable player and then you can take the lessons with you wherever you go.  When you have a few minutes of time, you just put on the headphones and start learning.

The lessons in Rocket Hindi revolve around modern conversations in Hindi – the type of Hindi you’ll use in everyday situations.

The audio lessons are focused on conversational Hindi so you’ll be able to speak with and understand native speakers. The creator of the program, Nikita Sharma, speaks Hindi to you and you respond in Hindi.  It’s pretty darn simple and the native speakers on the audio are from Delhi which means they speak with a Hindi accent that is widely understood in India.

If you want to, you can listen to some audio samples on the website using the link at the bottom of this page.

Complaints

After using several Pimsleur courses, I’ve become a big fan of the Pimsleur method because it triggers you to remember words and phrases seemingly at the moment you are about to forget them. If I could change one thing about this course, I would include something similar to the Pimsleur method. However, I think the programs from Rocket Languages use more modern phrases and greetings which is a big plus and the MegaHindi program seems to work very well for memorization.

The Transcripts Help You Learn Written Hindi

One thing I really like about Rocket Hindi is the written transcripts. The course includes transcripts in Romanized Hindu, English and Hindi script. It’s great to learn to speak a language, but it’s also nice to be able to read signs, find a restaurant and read a menu.

Grammar and Culture Guides

One of the hardest things about learning a new language is understanding why native speakers say certain things in certain situations.  Rocket Hindi provides answers to that tricky problem with 31 grammar and culture guides.  It’s a good mix of audio, written explanations, and activities.

MegaHindi Software Program

rocket-hindi-mega-audio copyResearch has shown that approximately 80% of conversations use fewer than 1,600 words.  So if you learn about 1,600 words, then you can participate in most conversations.

The MegaHindi software program has two components to help you build your vocabulary: MegaVocab games and MegaAudio.  Most importantly, the software helps you improve your ability to recognize Hindi words when you hear them.

Ongoing Support

The main drawback I’ve found with online language courses is lack of ongoing support.

If you don’t know how to pronounce a certain word or if you have a question, what do you do?

Rocket Hindi has a solution in the Rocket Hindi Learner’s Forum where you can ask questions and interact with Hindi teachers, native Hindi speakers and other people using the course.  This is a time-saving feature and one that I’d like to see in other language software packages.

How Long Does It Take to Learn Hindi with Rocket Hindi?

How often do you plan to study Hindi?  It depends on how often you study and whether or not you download the Hindi audio lessons so you can immerse yourself in the language.  If you use the program consistently, I think you’ll see very good results within two months.  You probably won’t be discussing anything really complex but daily conversations like finding a hotel room, ordering a meal, and having a regular conversation should go smoothly.

My Feelings About Rocket Hindi

I own 13 language programs a number of language books and I have to say Rocket Hindi is a great value for the money.  Rocket Languages included a number of features that are usually only availble in the higher priced courses. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “You get what you pay for.”  Well, occasionally it’s nice to discover you don’t have to pay through nose for a quality product.

Here’s a recap of what I really like about Rocket Hindi.  First, you can download everything or you can log on and do the lessons from anywhere.  Second, you can download the MP3 files and immerse yourself in the language by listening to the audio on your iPod or other MP3 player.  Third, the Rocket Hindi Learner’s Forum provides you a place to ask questions when you get stuck.  Some of the other language programs on the market offer this option but it costs you just under $1,000.  Rocket Hindi includes this feature.  Fourth, the course comes with a 60 day money back guarantee to give you enough time to evaluate whether the course is a good fit for you.

In conclusion, I’m very impressed with the course and I think you’ll love it – that’s why I’ve reviewed the course for you and offer it through my affiliate link.
